Founded by Aleksis Gailans in 2017, Costume Source was born out of frustration with the state of dance costume hire.
As Aleksis hired costumes for his own dance schools, he repeatedly encountered several challenges: limited options, poor communication, a complicated ordering process, and uncertainty about what would actually be delivered.
He knew there had to be a better way.
With his background in business, technology and live events, Aleksis set out to revolutionise the dance costume hire experience.
Costume Source was born.

Launch
Costume Source launch and become the first dance costume hire company to not only show live stock availability but also allow customers to book and pay online.
We fulfill over 200 bookings (about 7,500 individual costumes) in our first 6 months of operating.

Pass on Plastic
Our environmental journey begins as we completely eliminate single-use plastic from everything we do.
All our packaging is sustainable and recyclable, you won't find plastic packaging tape or mailing bags here. Our mailing bags are actually made from sugarcane!

Named Costumes
In another first, we allow customers to add names to their costumes.
These get printed on the costume bags and make it really easy to organise everything. No one else offers this!

Hire Costumes, plant Trees
We start planting trees for every single costume hire.
We have now planted over 80,000 trees and are planting more every day!

Carbon Neutral
Costume Source become the world's first (and only) Carbon Neutral dance costume hire company.
We allow customers to self-manage their bookings.
Customers can add and remove costumes from their booking at any time themselves. We are still the only company that allow you to do this.

Living Wage Employer
We are accredited as a Living Wage Employer.
We have a really great team of people working for us, so it is only right we commit to continuing to pay them fairly.

Bigger and Cleaner
We open our second warehouse and kit it out as our industrial laundry facility to cope with demand.
Investing heavily in state-of-the-art cleaning technology, 95% of costumes are fully processed and back on the rail the same day they come back to us.

Giving back to the Dance community
We launch The Costume Source Dance Community Grant to help dance schools with things like improving studio facilities or providing bursaries to students.

To support and encourage entrepreneurs in the dance and performing arts sectors, we launch The Costume Source Business Catalyst.
